  • Search NCAP's Nationwide Community Action Agencies Database


  • Find your Texas Community Action Agency.


  • A joint effort by the Community Action Partnership and the National Association for State Community Services Programs, the CSBG Training and Technical Assistance (T&TA) website gives CSBG entities, state agencies, and state associations an easy way to make T&TA requests, look up highly-qualified consultants, access T&TA materials, join moderated discussion forums, and look up Community Action events across the country.


  • The National Community Action Foundation links to government agencies, information on CAP-PAC, and relevant legislative information affecting the Community Action network.


  • The Community Action Partnership is the national association for Community Action Agencies in Washington, D.C. The website offers information on upcoming conferences and meetings, policy issues, and publication information.


  • Community Action Program Legal Services, Inc. is a nonprofit membership organization designed to provide the expert legal services and legal training that community action agencies require to operate effectively under the requirements of national legislation and administrative regulations.


  • Virtual CAP is a national resource to support excellence in Community Action.


  • ROMA is a performance-based initiative designed to preserve the anti-poverty focus of community action and to promote greater effectiveness among state and local agencies receiving Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) funds.


  • The National Association for State Community Services Programs members are state CSBG and weatherization directors. Through publications and training, NASCSP offers resources for CSBG and weatherization grantees and subrecipients.


Federal Government


  • The White House website contains current news briefings and a form to email to the President and Vice President.


  • The Administration for Children & Families provides information on LIHEAP, Community Services, Head Start, and other programs.


  • The U.S. Department of Labor offers information on welfare-to-work efforts, statistics, wage hour and workplace standards (such as Family Medical Leave and Whistleblower regulations), migrant worker issues, and discrimination issues.


  • The U.S. Government Publishing Office provides Congressional bills, information on Congressional committees, public laws, U.S. Code, and the Federal Register.


  • The Federal Register contains information and notices available in text or portable document formats (pdf).


  • HUD User contains U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Office of Policy Development and Research news and publications.

Feeding Texas (formerly the Texas Food Bank Network) leads a unified effort for a hunger-free Texas.


Meals On Wheels Association of Texas comprises home-delivered and/or congregate meal programs all over Texas.


Texas Association of Community Development Corporations improves the lives of low and moderate income Texans by strengthening the capacity of community development organizations as well as generating resources and relationships that enhance and sustain the community development industry in Texas.


Texas Association of Community Health Centers represents safety-net health care providers in the state of Texas and provides support services, technical assistance and training for its members.


Texas Council on Family Violence promotes safe and healthy relationships by supporting service providers, facilitating strategic prevention efforts, and creating opportunities for freedom from domestic violence.


Texas Head Start Association advocates for policies that strengthen services to Head Start programs.


Texas Legal Services Center provides assistance and training to poverty law advocates and their clients in the areas of litigation support, education and communication.


Texas Transit Association educates Texans about issues affecting the public transit industry within the state and actively supports public transportation in Texas.


Texas Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster


United Ways of Texas is the voluntary state association of Texas United Ways and works to represent the public policy interests of members, provide members education opportunities, and lead statewide initiatives designed to improve Texas communities.


Regional Resources


Administration for Children and Families – Region VI Office serves Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas, overseeing the programmatic and financial management of ACF programs in the region and providing guidance to grantees and various entities responsible for administering these programs.


Community Action Association of Region VI is a network of community action agencies providing a unified voice for the region and a conference platform for training and technical assistance. Membership is open to all agencies and state associations in Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.


Region VI Head Start Association is a strong advocate for children and families in poverty and for its membership, parents, staff and friends of Head Start.

GENERAL ASSISTANCE INFORMATION

 

  • 2-1-1 is the national number for free access to health and human services information and referral. 2-1-1 Texas is a statewide information and referral service. 2-1-1 can provide access to local food assistance, among many other services.


  • Texas Health and Human Services Commission offers secure online access to HHSC benefits including Medicaid, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) – formerly food stamps, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), and nursing home care and other services for people who are elderly or have disabilities. You can also find answers to questions about different benefits.


  • Texas Health and Human Services Commission – Lone Star Card provides answers to Lone Star card (Electronic Benefit Transfer – EBT) frequently asked questions.


  • United Way of Texas provides information on services and contacts for local United Way agencies. Services vary, but most local United Way agencies will have a connection to food assistance.
